Interior Landscapes

Le frottages-dessins is a series of drawings created through a process of immediate imprint-making. Using pieces of slate places under the paper, the artist then rubs graphite sticks on the surface, revealing an imprint of the texture beneath. Initially motivated by an exploration of the different textures present in the Pays-de-la Loire region, this series was created over several months in situ at the Parc des Ardoisières in Trélazé as well as Les Perrières in Doué-en-Anjou. What started as small-scale sketches on A5 Canson paper eventually evolved into larger scale drawings using various paper types and weights.  Over time, the abstract rubbings transformed into imaginary, almost extraterrestrial landscapes.
